📍 Go-To Drum Instructor for St. Catharines Church Drummers

Dear Drummer, (and Future Drummers 😉)

Hey, I’m Steve, 👋

If you’re here, it probably means one of two things:

1 - You’re just starting out on the drums and don’t know where to begin.

2 - You’ve been playing for a while but feel stuck…

No matter how much you practice, it feels like you're not getting anywhere.

And yeah… I’ve been there too.

Learning drums can feel overwhelming…

Especially when you're stuck, jumping between YouTube videos, trying to piece it all together on your own.

What’s a paradiddle and why should I care?

Am I even holding my drumsticks right?

How does every drummer on YouTube make it look so easy?

Are my drums set up correctly? And seriously... how do I tune these things?

And let’s be real…

Most drum lesson videos out there are either too basic (so you don’t feel like you’re learning much)...

…or way too advanced, making you feel lost & discouraged.

(May as well be wrestling a grizzly bear wearing a meat suit).

That’s where I come in → helping drummers cut through the noise & find a clear path to real progress.

Finally!! 🥳

With 18+ years behind the kit, I’ve gigged across the region, played in some of the biggest churches, recorded drum covers with 585k+ views, and helped students of all ages unlock their potential.

The good news?

***Cue epic drumroll***

Getting better isn’t complicated.

You just need the right plan, guidance, and structure to move forward.

If that sounds like you, you’re exactly where you need to be.

(Assuming you live in or around St. Catharines & NOTL 😅)

So how does this all work?

Let me break it down… 👇

No More Wasted Practice

Drummers can spend hours behind the kit… but without a plan, practice turns into "Zombie Practice"—mindless, frustrating, and keeping you stuck.

We’ve ALL been there.

Having fun matters & not every session needs to be hardcore drills. But real progress? That’s what makes drumming fun.

When your hands and feet move effortlessly… the pocket is locked in… when everything just clicks—that’s when drumming comes alive. 😏

If you’ve been trying to find drum lessons near you that get results, this might be the clearest path forward.

No more wasted time. No more bad habits.  A Free pair of Drumsticks & a clear, step-by-step plan to help you improve faster—and enjoy playing more than ever.

“Tight. In the pocket. And just like the record. Perfection bro.”

“Hey man! Fellow worship drummer here. Just letting you know your covers have helped me out a lot. You're a very talented drummer. I could really benefit from more covers like these, and I’m sure everyone else who liked them could too. Thanks, Steve!”

“This cover saved me! I had to play this for the first time at Youth Camp, and I watched this again and again. I hope I’ll be able to pull it off.”

Private > Online Drum Lessons

I’m all for online learning. In fact, I plan on making my own online drum courses one day.  But no matter how good online lessons get, they will NEVER replace real, one-on-one instruction.

Videos show you what to play—but not if you're doing it right.

It won’t fix bad habits, keep you accountable, or prepare you for the real world like private drum lessons can.

That’s why I teach private lessons—so you get real feedback, real progress, and real results.  I offer in-person drum lessons in St. Catharines, built for drummers who want clear direction and real feedback.

If you’re interested in how my in-person drum lessons work, head over to the Lessons & Pricing page to learn more.

The Study

WHERE DRUMMERS ARE FORGED.

When designing The Study (my drum room), I knew exactly what I didn’t want.

Most modern spaces are boring, lifeless, and built for convenience… Not for excellence. They lack inspiration, depth, and any sense of purpose.

So I built something different.

A space with gravity. A space with character. A space where drummers aren’t just taught—they’re Forged.

The Study is unapologetically masculine—strong, focused, and distraction-free. Built for drummers who want real progress.

And more than that—I surrounded it with greatness.

The walls hold the great books of our past—the wisdom of our fathers and those who came before us.

Because where you practice shapes how you play—and what you surround yourself with shapes who you become.

“Dang man, great composure throughout—well played is an understatement! You are doing the worship drumming community a great honor by putting the time and effort into these covers.
Thank you.”

“By far the best cover of this song. Nice job, man.”

“Hey man! Fellow worship drummer here. Just letting you know your covers have helped me out a lot. You're a very talented drummer. I could really benefit from more covers like these, and I’m sure everyone else who liked them could too. Thanks, Steve!”

“My friend, your heart is everywhere on this track. Nothing left to say…except thanks for the lesson. Gonna emulate you this weekend.”

“Steve, why aren't you posting more vids? These are well-produced and a great learning tool for drummers.”

“Tight. In the pocket. And just like the record. Perfection bro.”

“You absolutely killed it, Steve! What a pleasure to watch!
Thank you!”

“Your drumming is so satisfying! It’s so clean and the quality of the audio and video is 100% smooth! I wish you all the best, brother!”

“This cover saved me! I had to play this for the first time at Youth Camp, and I watched this again and again. I hope I’ll be able to pull it off.”

“You nailed it! One of the best drum covers I’ve seen on YouTube.”

“Great job, Steve! This really helped me prepare—I’m playing this song on Sunday.”

You’ve Got Questions, We’ve Got Answers!

Who are your lessons for?

I teach drum lessons to beginners, intermediates, and more advanced and experienced drummers. Whether you're just starting out or have been playing for years and feel stuck. Most of my students are new to drumming, church drummers, or casual adult drummers looking to sharpen their skills and play in their free time.

What makes your drum lessons different?

My private drum lessons focus on simplicity, progress, and purpose. If you're a beginner, I skip the nonsense and get you playing real beats fast using a simple Number System. Once you’ve got momentum, we build your technique and musicianship.

I teach from a faith-informed perspective—believing music is a gift that’s meant to be played with purpose and excellence. Whether you're playing in church, with a band, or just at home, I’ll help you grow in skill and stay grounded in why you play.

What age is best to start drum lessons?

Ages 7–8 is a great starting point for kids once they can reach the pedals. But there’s no upper limit. I regularly teach adults in their 30s, 40s, and beyond who are just starting out. It’s never too late to learn to drum.

Do you offer drum lessons near me?

Yes!  At least if you're in or near St. Catharines or Niagara-On-The-Lake (NOTL), ON. I offer in-person drum lessons at my private studio, The Study. It's a dedicated space built for hands-on coaching, and students come from across the Niagara region.

Can I really learn drums if I have no rhythm or experience?

Yes, you can, but it might take a bit more effort in the beginning, and that’s totally normal. Rhythm isn’t just a talent…it’s a skill that can be developed over time. Some students pick it up quickly, and others need to work at it a little longer. Either way, I’ll guide you step-by-step so you can build timing, coordination, and confidence at your own pace.

Do I need a drum kit to get started?

Nope! You can start with a practice pad at home & use my drum kit during lessons. That said, getting your own drum kit (acoustic or electric) early on will help you progress faster. I’ll help you choose one that fits your space and budget when you’re ready.

What styles of drumming do you teach?

It depends on the student & their skill level, goals, and what they want to get out of lessons. That said, the core fundamentals I teach like independence, technique, pocket/feel, and timing, apply to every style of music. Whether you're into worship, rock, funk, gospel, pop, or whatever else… those foundations carry across all genres.

What if I have no musical background at all?

No problem! Most of my students start with zero experience. You’ll learn the fundamentals one step at a time, just like every great drummer did when they started.

How quickly can I learn to play a song?

Faster than you think. Many popular songs use simple grooves. Most students play their first full beat within the first few lessons—and full songs within a few weeks. For example, the groove from Uptown Funk, is one you could learn nearly right away.

Is it better to take lessons or just learn from YouTube?

YouTube’s great for ideas—but it won’t correct your form, track your progress, or keep you accountable. Private drum lessons give you structure, feedback, and momentum. That’s how you improve faster—and avoid building bad habits.

Is drumming hard to learn?

Drumming is approachable at any level. Playing simple beats can happen quickly. But like anything else, mastery takes time and consistency. With the right coach and a clear path, you’ll always know what to work on next.
