Where Drum Lessons Meet Discipline, Focus, and Progress

Not every room shapes players. This one does. This is where drummers are forged.

The Study

When was the last time you heard someone call a room a “Study”...?

If you’re anything like me, it’s probably been a while…

Maybe the last time you played the famous board game Clue?

Maybe when you were a kid and had a grandfather who still used his favourite room, his Study, for reading or writing?

It’s an old word, and an older concept, but one worth remembering.

A Study was never just a room.

It was the place for preparation, focus, & mastery.

Where pastors crafted sermons.

Writers shaped stories.

Philosophers trained their minds.

It was historically a place where men went to sharpen themselves.

So why am I trying to bring this back?

Especially for just a drum room.

Well…. most rooms today? They’re built for convenience.

Quick, plain, forgettable.

That’s why I didn’t call this a drum room, or a studio, or an office.

I designed this with history, architecture, philosophy, masculinity & religion in mind.

Welcome to The Study.

A SPACE BUILT FOR MASTERY

Most drum lesson rooms are uninspiring.

Plain white walls. Buzzing fluorescent lights.

A lifeless square space where you sit, stare, and wait for the clock to run out.

That’s not a room I want to study, practice, play or teach.

Every detail in The Study is intentional.

From the sound to the lighting to the way it makes you feel the moment you step in.

Two Full Kits

One for me, one for you. No kit-swapping, no wasted time—just hands-on coaching and real-time feedback.

Pro-Level Gear

I teach on my Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute 6-piece. It’s not some beat-up lesson kit—it’s the kind of gear you’d find on stage, and I keep it tuned and dialed in.

A Room with Character

Midnight green walls. Vaulted ceilings. Hardwood floors. Built with weight. Designed to inspire.

Architecture matters.

Throughout history, the greatest minds built spaces that elevated thought and demanded presence:

Cathedrals that lifted eyes to heaven.

Castles that defined strength & stood for centuries.

Libraries that guarded wisdom.

Now…. I didn’t have a cathedral budget…. 😅

But with the resources I was providentially allocated,

I designed & built this room with purpose.

The space you learn in shapes the way you play.

And a room with character helps build drummers who won’t settle for mediocre.

But inspires the pursuit of Mastery.

LEARNING FROM THE MASTERS

If you want to master the drums, you need more than practice.

You need to study.

(I know….. The word study gets a bad wrap, but let me explain.)

Inside The Study, we break down the drummers who set the standard:

Teddy Campbell. Calvin Rodgers. Dave Weckl.
Larnell Lewis. Steve Gadd. Steve Jordan.
Thomas Pridgen. Buddy Rich. Benny Greb.

To only name a few….

Their feel. Their dynamics. Their musicality & Technique.

We won’t just watch them play for the kind of motivation that wears off within 5 minutes after you leave…

I’ll break down what they’re doing, so you can apply it to your own playing for real.

I’ll show you how to study more effectively, so your practice actually moves you forward.

The best drummers see & hear things you might not yet.

They’ve been trained to be better at learning.

SURROUNDED BY GREATNESS

Now I do more in my Study than play & teach the drums…

The room wasn’t just built for music.

It was built for learning & you guessed it.. 😉

Study.

Lining the walls are some of the greatest works of Western thought.

Not just books—but stories of kings, warriors, theologians, and men who shaped the world.

Here’s a sample of what’s on the shelf:

The Bible
The foundation of wisdom and truth
The Aeneid (Virgil)
Duty, sacrifice, and destiny
The Iliad & The Odyssey (Homer)
War, struggle, and the weight of fate
Anabasis (Xenophon)
Leadership under fire
The Republic (Plato)
Order, justice, and the soul of a city
The City of God (Augustine)
Empires, eternity, and truth
The Institutes (John Calvin)
Theology with conviction
Beowulf
Kingship, courage, and the clash of steel
The Lord of the Rings
Brotherhood, burden, and light vs. darkness
The Chronicles of Narnia
Sacrifice, wonder, and wisdom

These aren’t just decorations.

They’re reminders. Anchors. Fuel.

What you surround yourself with shapes you.

The Study trains your hands, but I hope it can also inspire you to sharpen your mind.

WHY ANY OF THIS MATTERS

Most people don’t realize how much their environment affects their practice.

Put someone in a cold, cluttered, boring room—and they’ll check out, or probably do what we’re all guilty of….

Endless distracted practice of the same old thing.

But… put them in a space built with intention, and something changes.

You're able to focus longer.

You stay more engaged.

You want to get better.

That’s the power of the right space.

And that’s what The Study was built to do.

THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE

So what’s a lesson in The Study actually like?

It’s focused.  It’s structured.—And yea…it’s fun too. 👍

Hands-on Coaching

With two kits, we’re always playing. You’re never stuck watching.

Immediate Feedback

I correct as you go—so you don’t build bad habits.

Clear Direction

Every lesson ends with a plan. You’ll always know what to work on next.

Zero Distractions

Just drums, momentum and real progress.

This isn’t just another drum lesson.

This is where drummers are Forged.

(What a corny line…. but I still love it 😂.)

What Next?

If you’re looking for just another lesson in a lifeless practice room, this probably isn’t for you.

If you want to learn in a space that sharpens you & inspires you to focus, push, and grow…

Then welcome to The Study.

As you may have seen already,

Your first 30-minute drum lesson is completely free.

And when you show up, you’ll leave with a free pair of drumsticks as my gift to you.

 FAQ List with Answers

What is The Study?

The Study is my private drum lesson space, designed to be more than just a practice room. It’s built for focus, inspiration, and real progress. No distractions, no nonsense.  A place where drummers are forged.

Why does the lesson space matter?

Where you practice affects how you play. The Study was built with purpose.  Great gear, dialed in acoustics, and an environment that pushes you to improve.

What gear do you have in The Study?

I teach on a Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute 6-piece kit, split into two separate drum kits so we can both play in real time. Both kits are equipped with pro-level cymbals and hardware, so everything sounds and feels like it should. No kit-swapping. No toy drums. Just quality gear that helps you play better.

Do I need to bring anything to my lesson?

Just bring drumsticks if you have any! Also, grab a small binder to keep your papers and notes together. If you forget your sticks, I’ve got extras. Everything else—drums, pedals, practice pads—is provided.

Can I record my lessons?

Yes! Recording is a great way to track progress. You’re welcome to record short clips of me playing what we’re working on so you have an accurate reference throughout the week.

Do you offer in-home lessons instead?

No, all lessons take place at The Study. This ensures students get the best experience—great sound, focused learning, and the right tools for improvement.

What’s the difference between The Study and a regular drum lesson room?

Most lesson rooms are boring—just four walls and a kit. The Study is built for serious drummers—inspired by legendary practice spaces, filled with books on music and discipline, and designed to help you level up your playing.

Are lessons recorded for students to review later?

Lessons aren’t recorded automatically, but you’re welcome to film anything during the drum lesson, especially me playing through what we worked on. That way, you’ve got a clear reference when practicing at home.

Why are there books in The Study?

Because this room is built for more than just music. The shelves are lined with works on history, theology, leadership, and discipline. They’re not decorations—they’re part of the environment.  And I actually use them myself when I’m not drumming or teaching.

Can I try out different gear during my lesson?

Absolutely! If you’re curious about different cymbals, sticks, or pedals, I can let you try them out to see what feels right for your playing style.

What makes The Study different from other drum lesson rooms?

Most lesson spaces are forgettable. The Study is built with intention—pro gear, acoustic treatment, and an atmosphere that actually makes you want to practice.

What if I’m just a beginner?

Even better. The Study is built to help new drummers learn the right way, from day one. You’ll be pushed forward, and I’ll walk you through every step.

This room isn’t just about the drums.

It’s about raising your standard—and learning to show up focused, confident, and ready.
